Supersonic Festival | Fri 10 Nov | Hare & Hounds | £13.75
Supersonic are back and this time they’ve brought together Birmingham’s own legendary left field techno innovator Surgeon, snooker loopy beats from Mr Interesting himself Steve Davis, cult Iranian psych rocker Kavus Torabi and the inimitable DJ Bus Replacement Service. Surgeon needs no introduction around these parts, his dark industrial beats are battered into techno mythology. Eclectic, dark, moody and hugely influential. The Romford Robot (Davis) and Torabi have been presenting ‘The Interesting Alternative Show’ on Phoenix FM since 2010, a scattergun mix of the experimental and psychedelic. Torabi has possibly the most interesting musical CV ever composed working with Gong, Cardiacs, Guapo and The Medieval Babes to list just a few. The most interesting gig in Birmingham this year? Tickets are strictly limited to 250 so don’t hang about.

Bass music and UK garage rave with an otherworldly, circus-themed twist. This Friday, the Foreverland fraternity stop off at Birmingham on their ambitious 25-city trip across the UK. Desert Island Discs | Sat 11 Nov | 1000 Trades | Free
Daytime disc spinning and a laidback social fit for all the family, this brainchild of music lovers Chris Bridge and Steve Bignell is a take on the popular radio show with a distinctly Birmingham slant. Guests are invited to come and play 8 of their favourite tracks over 45 minutes from any genre. The only pre-requisite is that the tracks mean something to them personally and the event is open to non DJ’s, as well as featuring tunes spun by some of Birmingham’s fantastic DJ talent. With a record fair going on upstairs, Pietanic on hand with food, and a licensed bar, expect an interesting and relaxing Saturday afternoon. (MS)

Artwork | Sat 11 Nov | Hare & Hounds | £16.50
After a chilled-out night with feel-good beats and a friendly atmosphere? Look no further. This weekend, veteran DJ Artwork will be filling the Hare & Hounds with warm house, disco and techno sounds, all night long. And when we say this is an intimate show, we mean it: for one night only, the Hare & Hounds will become Artwork’s living room. Think ugly floral carpets, embarrassing family portraits and smoky open fires (okay, this last one might be subject to health and safety regulations) and you’ve got a pretty good idea of the vibe. Holy Goof | Sat 11 Nov | Rainbow | £16.50
Midlands man Holy Goof finishes up his first-ever solo UK tour close to home at the Rainbow Venues. While his sound is situated squarely within the nebulous world of UK bass music, a listen to his productions reveals the young DJ/producer’s ties to the 2007 bassline scene, with its emphasis on fast-paced beats and wonky low frequencies. As the sound of bassline has diversified and evolved into the abrasive hybrid it is today, Holy Goof has ridden the wave to become one of the most exciting prospects in UK bass music.
