Jazzie B (Soul II Soul) | Sat 5 May | Hare & Hounds | from £11
You probably know Jazzie B as vocalist, DJ, rapper, producer and general musical polymath for London-based collective Soul II Soul. In the late 80s and 90s, this Brit Award nominated group’s soul and R&B sound stormed the charts, making its way into clubs up and down the country. Today, it’s almost difficult to imagine clubland classics such as ‘Back to Life (However Do You Want Me)’ and ‘Keep on Movin’’ not existing. Fast-forward to the present day and Jazzie B will be showing off the DJing side of his persona as part of a festival warm-up for Southport Weekender and Croatian festival SUNcéBeat 9. Now sing it with us: back to life, back to reality… See our feature here. www.skiddle.com
Crane x Circus | Sun 6 May | Crane | from £16.50

This is big-name stuff, a large-scale spectacle kicking off in a huge warehouse space situated slap-bang in the middle of Digbeth. Expect fireworks, both figuratively and literally, as well as cracking tunes and a booming, state-of-the-art sound system. This is a hardcore rave for all the hardcore ravers out there. www.skiddle.com
Silent Disco | Sun 6 May | Actress & Bishop | £3 OTD
You know the deal: head down early to snap up your headphones, get a few rounds in, then make a beeline for the dance floor… This is the Actress and Bishop’s locally renowned silent disco, the cool equivalent of an iPod party, quieter than your average rave but always uproariously fun. And on the night there’ll be two DJs vying for your attention, so if you’re not into what’s playing on the one channel, just switch over to the other. Historically, this is the Actress and Bishop’s most popular night, so if you don’t know the deal already, why on earth not? See our feature here.
PENDA | Sat 6 May | Dig Brew Co | TBC
Alternative bank holiday destination hosted by Digbeth’s resident independent brewery. If that doesn’t sound edgy enough for you, be reassured that you probably don’t know any of the names on the bill. But don’t be fooled by their relative obscurity – these are some of the best and brightest young DJs Birmingham has to offer. On the night, Bunny tops a line-up starring Can, the Darrs, Elliott, Daan Donk and DJ MB.
