Celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month this February with a variety of queer events including an art tour at the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, and RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 3 winner Trixie Mattel at the O2 Academy.

Art: “Are you Fem dear?” LGBTQ+ History Month Art Tour

As part of the celebrations for LGBTQ+ History Month, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery are holding a tour of their world class art collection which explores ideas about femininity and what it means to be ‘fem’. The tour is hosted by local Birmingham drag star Lacey Lou, and will include historical artworks as well as more contemporary work in two of the current exhibitions at the gallery, Women Power Protest and Too Cute!

Queer-pop sensation Hayley Kiyoko makes her way to the O2 Academy at the beginning of February, on tour in support of her hugely popular debut album Expectations. After a meteoric rise into becoming one of the most popular new artists in the pop landscape, and with support from self-proclaimed ‘quirkpop’ singer Naaz, Kiyoko has made sure this is a show you do not want to miss.

Film: 120 BPM (Beats per Minute) at Journey Film Club

Premiering at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, 120 BPM (or, BPM/Beats per Minute) was met with critical acclaim and multiple awards. This February, Journey Film Club will be screening the film – which tackles the AIDS epidemic and is set in France in the 1990s. The film centres around a group of HIV/AIDS activists and is both political and personal, insightful and heart-breaking. Admission is completely free so don’t miss out on this screening.

Festival: COLOURS Youth Festival

COLOURS Youth Festival is a celebration of queer people from around the UK, specifically for LGBTQ+ people of colour aged 16-25. A safe and inclusive space, the festival will include workshops, stalls, performances and more throughout the day.

Music / Comedy: Trixie Mattel ‘Skinny Legend Tour’

Winner winner, chicken dinner! This February, RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 3 champion and skinny legend herself Trixie Mattel sashays her way into Birmingham for her one woman show. As part of her new ‘Skinny Legend Tour’, Trixie brings her signature mix of live music and comedy to the O2 Academy.
