Birmingham Heritage Week returns this September, opening up the doors to some of the city’s most historic venues and landmarks.

Running from Fri 11 Sep – Sun 20 Sep 2026, this year’s programme invites visitors to head underground to explore the tunnels beneath the Mailbox, discover the Victorian catacombs under Warstone Lane Cemetery, or step aboard the historic locomotives at Tyseley Rail Depot.

There’s also the chance to celebrate the centenary of Birmingham’s iconic No. 11 Outer Circle bus route, with a nostalgic ride on a 1950s Birmingham ‘Standard’ double-decker from Transport Museum Wythall.

Elsewhere, there are heritage walks exploring the Yardley Conservation Area, Spaghetti Junction, Digbeth, the Jewellery Quarter and other iconic parts of the city centre.

There are plenty of chances to get inside buildings that aren’t always open to the public, with visitors able to join an exclusive hard-hat tour of Moseley Road Baths, visit the Birmingham School of Art and School of Jewellery, take a look around the Birmingham Council House, step inside the Pugin-designed St Mary’s Convent in Handsworth, or visit New Hall Mill in Sutton Coldfield.

For something a little different, there’s a BBC Gardens open day at Thrive in Kings Heath, as well as neighbourhood walks taking place in Stirchley, Longbridge and Yardley Village.
