Sum Cellar: Brum Tropicana | Sat 16 June | The Old Crown | Free
The brand with the dark and dingy name climbs up from the basement with a bottle of wine in hand, ready to boogie on down to some good old-fashioned disco, funk and ska. Those of you familiar with Sum Cellar will know that this isn’t their usual nocturnal, bass-driven territory – far from it – and it’s refreshing to see the team try something new. This time they’re hitting up the Old Crown, officially the oldest boozer in Birmingham, for an afternoon of tropical beats and fruity flavours straight out of Havana – or Chicago, where the popular juice drink is made, depending on how you interpret the event’s name. Either works. See our feature here.

A13: Bass and Bassline | Fri 15 June | Amusement 13 | from £4.50
Since the venue’s inception in 2014, somewhere along the line Amusement 13 became the bass and bassline venue in Birmingham. It’s the home of Bass Collective and DNB Collective, after all, and any grimy bassline night worth its salt that hits the city is bound to be hosted at the unlucky-for-some venue. The A13 team seem to have embraced this genre pigeon-holing with gusto, going so far as to put on their own club nights homing in on sounds from the lower end of the sonic spectrum. With some of the Midlands’ most exciting new talent on display, including Albzzy, Jay Faded, Versipelli and Wavy D, expect gun-fingers galore at this one. www.skiddle.com

Shadow Demon Empire BBQ | Sat 16 June | Boxxed | from £25
Epic drum and bass antics from the Shadow Demon Empire: 13 hours of breakbeat goodness, warping basslines and a haphazard mishmash of the most obnoxious jump-up d’n’b you could ever conceive of. The fact alone that music this utterly ignorant even exists is proof alone of God’s omnipotence – this is music that will make you want to take a sledgehammer to anything and everything in your local vicinity. And if you develop a bit of an appetite during your destruction, there’s even a Caribbean barbecue to fuel your rampage. www.theticketsuperstore.com
