The brand with the dark and dingy name climbs up from the basement with a bottle of wine in hand, ready to boogie on down to some good old-fashioned disco, funk, ska, R&B and everything in between. It seems all set to be an afternoon of neon, floral shirts and summer dresses with a distinctly 90s, Vice City aesthetic, a retro throwback to the sounds and fashions of yesteryear. Those of you familiar with Sum Cellar will know that this isn’t their usual nocturnal, bass-driven territory – far from it – and it’s refreshing to see the team try something new. This time they’re hitting up the Old Crown, officially the oldest boozer in Birmingham, for an afternoon of tropical beats and fruity flavours straight out of Havana – or Chicago, where the popular juice drink is made, depending on how you interpret the event’s name. Either works.
