The Good Food Guide has unveiled the 2024 edition of its Top 100 Local Restaurants in Britain list, with two Birmingham spots being named in the rankings.

Every year, the organisation receives thousands of public nominations for restaurants to be included. The final list is then selected after the guide’s inspectors visit eateries around the UK.

To be included, restaurants meet certain criteria, including being independently run and owned by the chef or a hands-on proprietor, offering regularly changing seasonal menus at an affordable price and demonstrating strong relationships with local suppliers.

Flying the flag for Birmingham in the 2024 guide, intimate Italian spot Tropea, which was named Best Restaurant in Central & East of England in last year’s Good Food ratings, returns to the list. The Michelin-recommended restaurant takes inspiration from the markets of Milan, serving dishes that the team describes as ‘fuss-free but of the highest quality’.

Joining them, Edgbaston’s Chapter also returned to the Top 100. The team describes their offering as ‘nature-led and fiercely rooted in the British seasons’, with guests able to enjoy two courses for an impressive £24.
