A unique, gender-questioning take on the fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, this boldly erotic fairy tale is unlike any you’ve seen before. This Hispanic version choreographed by Carlos Pon Guerra for DeNada Dance Theatre is charged with attention-demanding eroticism, melodrama and intensity set in a heady circus sideshow. Full of deliciously dark humour and gender play, Carlos creates a fabulously carnivalesque atmosphere with female bulls, virgin lands and animals in drag. Despite the humour, this tragedy seeks to confront the monsters men make by chasing power, instilling fear and forcing oppression. Far from Disney’s candyfloss cliche, this dark dance interpretation of a timeless tale promises to give you goosebumps of a profound and lasting order.
