This August, Grease is the word as some classic musicals arrive at the Birmingham Hippodrome alongside a new offering from NT Live at the MAC.

Grease: The Musical

One of the most popular musicals of all time makes its way to Birmingham this August! Following a sell-out run at Leicester Curve, this brand new production of Grease: The Musical promises to wow audiences with electrifying performances of classic hits including Greased Lightnin’, Summer Nights and You’re the One That I Want. Dive into the story of Danny and Sandy’s high school romance, and catch either Peter Andre or Ore Oduba as Teen Angel in this critically acclaimed staging of the classic show.

NT Live: Small Island (Encore)

As part of the National Theatre Live’s 10th birthday, the new theatre adaptation of Andrea Levy’s award-winning novel Small Island is being filmed live and screened at the MAC this month! The play brings audiences on a journey from Jamaica to Britain, through World War II to 1948 when the HMT Empire Windrush docked at Tilbury. Following three closely interconnected stories, the play explores the historical relationship between Jamaica and the UK and brings the hope and humanity at the heart of Levy’s novel to life.

West Side Story

The Hippodrome’s second musical offering in August is their youth production of West Side Story. A fresh take on one of the most iconic musicals in history, a fantastic cast of emerging young performers from across the region bring this timeless tale of teenage love to life. As a huge part of the Hippodrome’s 120th birthday celebrations, the three-night run of this brand new home-grown production is not to be missed.
