Following Birmingham’s Pride weekend in May, the party isn’t ending as June has some fantastic LGBTQ+ events to offer. RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars 4 winner Trinity the Tuck brings her one-woman show to the Glee Club, and the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery launches Rainbow Swing – a night of 1940s dancing and live music.
Film: The Bubble
One of the queer films that the Journey Film Club is screening this month is Eytan Fox’s The Bubble. The film tells the story of two men who fall in love with each other, one Israeli and one Palestinian. Exploring young people’s lives in Tel Aviv from multiple perspectives – gay and straight, male and female – Fox’s outlook is both personal and political. Journey Film Club is Birmingham’s go-to destination for LGBTQ+ film, so if you’ve never visited before why not start now!
Tue 4 Jun, Journey Film Club, Birmingham LGBT Centre, 38/40 Holloway Circus, Birmingham B1 1EQ, 7:30pm, FREE, www.journeyfilmclub.co.uk
Dance: Rainbow Swing
In honour of the 50-year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in June 2019, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery are launching Rainbow Swing in partnership with Hannah Graham and The Swing Era. A night of 1940s dancing with live music from the Rhythm Remedies and performances from the Suzy Qs, Rainbow Swing is ‘a liberation to celebrate love in all forms.’ Whether to show off your moves or to step out of your comfort zone – dance, mingle and celebrate LGBTQ+ pride with Rainbow Swing.
