It’s impossible to overstate SikTh’s influence on modern metal: Watford’s six-strong harbingers of chaos brought ruthlessly mathematical grooves into the mainstream, building on the manic machinery of Meshuggah to create a frantic, breathless rush of absurd imagery, polyrhythmic lunacy and breakneck, hairpin turns. The band’s first life was cruelly short-lived: a brief two-album run, with 2006’s ‘Death of a Dead Day’ an almost perfect onslaught of djent grooves, technical virtuosity and brutal breakdowns. SikTh’s unexpected resurrection in 2014 has finally led to a new album this year, ‘The Future in Whose Eyes?’, and a chance to see these legendary innovators once again returning to the genre they almost single-handedly invented.
