The king of psychedelic soul dusts off his eccentric pimp pomp attire to grace the H&H with his unique brand of so-relaxed-it’s-horizontal’ R&B folk sound. Testament to this one man talent machine is 1974’s exemplary Inspirational Information, going down as one of the all time LP greats and genuinely barely putting a foot wrong. Strawberry Letter 23 may have been appropriated by big brand advertising (and the Jackie Brown soundtrack) but the track and its sublimely kaleidoscopic lyrics still keep it firmly in place as one of our all time favourites. About as far from a one hit wonder as is possible, Shuggie is undoubtedly one of the most important and influential 70s soul guitarists who created a style entirely his own, and we’re not just talking sartorially. A likely sell-out, get tickets early and sit safe in the knowledge of taking in a true legend at work.
