In the year that marks 100 years since women were first granted the right to vote, University of Birmingham lecturer Zoё Thomas brings ‘Suffrage and the Arts’ to Eastside Projects this February. Indulge your inner/outer feminist by joining Zoё as she talks about her research into the suffrage movement and its relationship with the arts. Opening a discussion about art and politics, she will explore both female and male painters, jewellers, embroiderers, and more – considering their role in the British suffrage campaign. The event finds it’s perfect home in Eastside Projects, an artist-run space which aims to show the ways in which art can be useful in society – echoing the topics that will be raised in Zoё’s talk. Providing an opportunity to look back at some of the most revolutionary creatives and political individuals in the long-standing fight for gender equality, this is the perfect event for anyone with an interest in politics, history, the arts, or all of the above.
