Barry Wordsworth returns to the city to conduct The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra through a varied programme that will begin with a new piece from Deputy Head of Composition, Michael Wolters. There are more of them than us – a Queer Concerto for Nine Saxophones and Orchestra reflects Wolters life growing up gay in a small German village and the feelings of being an outsider this engendered throughout his life. The end of year concert will also include Ravel’s La valse and Stravinsky’s Firebird.
