Enigmatic South London producer-singer Sampha has been building up a huge library of astonishing collaborative work, from SBTRKT and Jessie Ware to Kanye and Solange, making him an under-appreciated influence in contemporary, transatlantic R&B. His own solo work since 2009 has been a slow and tantalising drip-feed; recent singles Timmy’s Prayer and Blood On Me only raise the bar of expectation for his debut album’s release in 2017. With a gorgeous, plaintive voice and a faultless ear for tight production, Sampha’s patience and sensitivity come through in everything he touches. A short UK tour in March follows the new album: this show at the O2 Institute is an opportunity to be among the first crowds hearing his new material live.
