Disclaimer* We also like Band of Horses, but when Israel Nash was latterly announced as a support at their gig in February (see our Band of Horses preview here) we nearly fell off our fake steed. It’s rare we shout louder about a support act than the main, but having sneaked in last min and pretty much without ceremony, this late arrival good-news demands attention. A world leader in beautiful psychedelic country soundscapes, Nash’s Rain Plains featuring in the suitably offbeat soundtrack to Captain Fantastic last year rightly reminded us of how much we love those vast emotive crescendo-ing sweeps of guitar and gorgeous gravelly vocals and it was pretty much seeing us through winter. Heading to the UK from his 15 acres of land in Texas Hill Country, Nash and band bring their latest album Silver Season to the Institute. Expect more lush expansive, cosmos-infused sweeping soundscapes with a swirl of keys, bass, pedal steel, acoustic strum and languid drums, along with a new soundtrack to see our daydreaming of sun-bleached optimism right through ’til Spring.
