Danish pop wunderkind MØ is a guilty pleasure: zeitgeist-baiting futurist pop executed with a sense of irrepressible fun. The artist born Karen Andersen has built up a reputation for euphoric pop singles that has hardly waned in the last six years: her best moments, from the metronomic synth-brass of ‘Pilgrim’ to the Hollywood sugar-rush of ‘Drum’, have felt ubiquitous, working their way into soundtracks and playlists in every dark corner of the internet. It’s been a few years since debut album ‘No Mythologies to Follow’, but Andersen’s certainly not missed a step: aside from the string of standalone singles, she surprise-dropped her newest EP ‘When I Was Young’ at the tail-end of 2017, a set of booming, hook-heavy choruses whose warped production manages to sound minimalist and meter-clipping at the same time. MØ sounds like a crowd-pleaser at heart, a woman with an unshakeable faith in the power of pop music to lift spirits: give her your time, and you might just find yourself swept away too.
