Stuart Goldsmith | Sun 5 Mar | Glee Club | £10
If you think Stuart (pictured) looks vaguely familiar you may well remember him from his days as a street performer on the streets of Birmingham. Sadly there are no more fire eating antics in his show but there are plenty of laughs as he turns his dry observational eye on life. Creator of the excellent podcast series The Comedians Comedian, which is nearing 200 episodes, Stuart’s return to the region is always great fun. booking.glee.co.uk

Lee Nelson | Thu 9 Mar | The Old Rep Theatre | £20
Simon Brodkin brings his well good prankster Lee Nelson to town in new show Serious Joker. Famously showering Sepp Blatter with dollars during a press conference claiming it was part of the 2026 bid to host the World Cup in North Korea and interrupting a Donald Trump speech by giving out nazi golf balls he is certainly not lacking in confidence. There will be plenty of audience interaction so be warned there is no hiding place once Lee gets started. www.ticketsource.co.uk

Hannah Silvester & Craig Deeley | Sat 11 Mar | mac | £8
A Brummie comedy double bill with two of the region’s brightest stand up’s. Award winning Hannah Silvester will be performing her Special Little Snowflake show, which is certainly not as fluffy as it sounds, expect some bite and some songs. The charming and easy going Craig Deeley is a talent in the ascendency and his gentle picking at life’s absurdities are a comic joy. Part of the ongoing Birmingham is Funny season. macbirmingham.co.uk

Captain Hotknives | Wed 15 Mar | Hare & Hounds | £5/7
A captain of offbeat stoner comedy with an intriguing back catalogue of songs featuring topics such as egging, solvent abuse and pigeon hypnosis, see our full preview here.

Sean Mcloughlin | Thu 16 Mar | mac | £10
Sean has a lot to say and he is on a mission to make sure you listen and take notice. Forthright, confrontational and most importantly hilarious. The critic’s favourite has a whole plethora of new life experiences to chew on and regurgitate into comedy gold in his new show ‘Kamikaze’. His enthusiastically downbeat worldview is a tragically stoic descent into a world brimming with existential laughs. macbirmingham.co.uk

Tony Law | Fri 17 Mar | Glee | £15
Any show entitled  ‘A Law Undo His-elf What Welcome’ is going  be a bit different and Canadian born Tony Law’s latest episode of his uniquely surreal humour doesn’t disappoint, it’s a way out there blast of cheery muddle headed laughs. Our advice? Buckle up and just go with the flow as Tony’s imagination wanders into oft unscripted flights of comic fantasy.  If you’ve seen Tony in any of his myriad TV appearances you’ll know what to expect. booking.glee.co.uk

Russell Howard | Fri 17 Mar & Sat 18 Mar | Genting Arena | £29.39
Russell’s feel good charm and wry optimism have won him many fans and two nights at the Genting Arena are testament to his enduring popularity. This is his first live tour in three years and he’s not kidding christening it the ‘Round the World’ tour. Six months and taking in some 17 countries. Birmingham is early on in that punishing schedule so we should see him at his sprightly best. www.theticketfactory.com

Stewart Lee | Mon 27 Mar & Tue 28 Mar | Symphony Hall | £25
The 41st best stand up comic ever and champion of ‘political correctness’ returns to Birmingham in 2017 and is, according to the Daily Mail, ‘A slime-pit of bitterness’. Never shy of tackling thorny subjects his articulate and disarming almost ‘blokey’ manner belies the intellectual depth of his art. Always a pleasure to welcome Lee home and we cant wait to see him again.
