‘Music! Comedy! Revolutionary socialism!’ Maybe not the three most likely of cultural bedfellows but that is the driving ethos of the triumvirate of comrades that have produced Lefty Scum. Conceived as a rabble rousing morale boost to a demoralised opposition, the red juggernaut of mirth, music and optimism continues to get stuck into politics and is as sharp as ever. Josie Long is as renown for her politics as her comedy and her humour skillfully manages to embrace a biting optimism, even when she includes material about the offensive haranguing she has had to endure on social media. Musical duo Jonny & the Baptists are self deprecating left wing revolutionaries shining a wickedly hilarious light on a befuddlingly complex world with joyously riotous candour and anyone that annoys UKIP into protesting about them is fine by us. Singer songwriter Grace Petrie is a subtler voice compared to the sledgehammer wit of Jonny & The Baptists but she is no less funny. Left curious are encouraged to attend along with any other political persuasion with the stark proviso that any Tories will probably have the piss taken out of them.
