This unique event, in partnership with the University of the West Indies, integrates academia and reggae culture giving an alternative perspective on the different areas of reggae culture and the integral part sound systems play. Through workshops, this interactive event allows experimentation and provides the opportunity to examine both traditional and new sound systems, whilst giving visitors the chance to create their own. A selection of exhibitions, presentations and photography will explore the movement’s many sub-genres, influences and innovations. Themes include dancehall, reggae music and gender, reggae within the music industry and marketing, reggae music, and media technology. Special guests, international academics and musicians will share their experiences and theoretical standpoints. The conference is being organised in cooperation with the Let’s Play Vinyl touring exhibition that runs from March 21st to 5th April at the university.
