As new metal genres go ‘Djent’ has certainly divided opinion. Derided as a short lived fad by many, there is no denying the technical accomplishment in its solo heavy instrumentals. See for yourself as the wonderfully named Animals as Leaders visit Digbeth this Thursday. The Washington D.C three piece feature twin axemen Tosin Abasi and Javier Reyes who make a deliriously tight and proficient hard edged metal sound. The sight of these boys’ fingers blitzing up and down those frets really is something to behold. Support comes from Canadian band Intervals and Plini from Australia. If an evening of heavily distorted, palm-muted guitar chords, syncopated riffs and polyrythms alongside virtuoso soloing appeals you know where to be. Set your overdrive pedals to stun!
