Based on the famous novel by Michael Morpurgo, the powerful and moving stage adaptation of War Horse comes to The Alexandra this summer. The venue’s stage will be filled with astonishing life-sized horses created by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, as stirring music soundtracks Albert’s treacherous journey to bring his horse, Joey, home.

Jack Absolute Flies Again | Sat 27 Sep - Sat 4 Oct | Crescent Theatre

After an aerial dog flight, Jack Absolte flies home to win the heart of an old flame; however, Jack’s advances soon turn to anarchy when the young heiress demands to be loved on her own, very particular terms.

The latest comedy from Richard Bean (One Man, Two Guvnors) and Oliver Chris promises laughter, tears, thrills, spills and plenty of double entendres.

The Body Snatcher & The Hanged Man's Bridge (double bill) | Thu 7 Aug - Fri 8 Aug | Blue Orange Theatre

A gothic double bill takes over the Blue Orange Theatre in August, as the venue welcomes both Charles Dickens’ The Hanged Man’s Bride and Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Body Snatcher.

Both plays will last roughly 45 minutes, with a 15-minute interval in between.

Bi-Curious George: Queer Planet | Thu 7 Aug | Midlands Arts Centre

Award-winning drag king, Bi-Curious George, invites audiences into a raucous celebration of queerness and the animal kingdom.

Following repeat sell-out performances at Edinburgh Fringe 2023, the show, which combines comedy, aprody songs and drag in the form fo a nature documentary, seeks to ‘shatter the heteronormative binaries through which we view the natural world’.

Presented by the celebrated The Duke’s Theatre Company, a contemporary take on Shakespeare’s classic tale of ambition, murder and madness comes to the unique al fresco surroundings of Birmingham’s Botanical Gardens.

At the helm of the show is Robert Shaw Cameron (Coronation Street, Regents Park Open Air Theatre, Sheffield Crucible) and designer Jessica Curtis (Hampstead Theatre, Almeida Theatre, Royal National Theatre) alongside a cast of six industry-leading actors.

This September, Birmingham Royal Ballet take inspiration from one of the city’s most iconic musical exports in Black Sabbath – The Ballet. 

Audiences can expect a theatrical evening packed with thrilling dance alongside full orchestrations of legendary Black Sabbath tracks, including Paranoid and Iron man, as well as brand-new orchestral pieces inspired by the group.

Promising a show packed with ‘splendour, eye-popping excess, of glitz, grandeur and glory’, the first-ever world tour of the multi-award-winning Moulin Rouge! The Musical arrives for a dazzling Birmingham stint this autumn.

The hit stage adaptation is packed with more than 70 iconic songs from both Baz Luhrmann’s revolutionary original film and beyond.
