At the Drive-In | Mon 12 Mar | O2 Institute | £38
At the Drive-In’s seminal melodic punk handbook, 2000’s ‘Relationship of Command’, was the kind of ‘overnight success’ that takes years of practice, miles of asphalt, and buckets of self-belief. Their 2012 reunion lit the blogosphere on fire, in good ways and bad: but the band’s recipe for coagulated guitar anthems, hurricane riffs, and mad space opera lyrics still lights a fire in the belly. Field Music | Thu 15 Mar | O2 Institute | £18.15
Field Music fit right into a very specific vein of erratic British art-rock: their music defies expectation at every turn, driven less by typical songcraft and more by a deep grasp of orchestral dynamics, along with sweeping 60s psychedelia. They’ve constantly changed their approach over the years, but right now, Field Music sound like their very best selves. See our full preview here.

Insecure Men | Thu 15 Mar | Hare & Hounds | £8
Songwriter supreme Saul Adamczewski (of Fat White Family) and long-time collaborator Ben Romans-Hopcraft (of Childhood fame) are the core of ‘slacker supergroup’ Insecure Men: effortlessly pumping out a blend of lounge, easy listening and timeless pop, that somehow manages to feel romantically nostalgic and refreshing at the same time. seetickets.com

The Rural Alberta Advantage | Fri 16 Mar | The Castle & Falcon | £11
Rustic folk band the Rural Alberta Advantage have one of those word-of-mouth followings that intensifies with age. The music’s a no-frills, no-bullshit frame for homespun stories, delivered in Nils Edenloff’s needle tone, and hammered home by bombastic drums – in other words, they’re a head-turner for early Mountain Goats fans – and new album ‘The Wild’ is their most ragged, energetic outing yet. seetickets.com

Dee Ajayi | Fri 16 Mar | Actress & Bishop | £6
Solihull’s Dee Ajayi makes engrossing folk music with a graceful touch and a gorgeous voice. An up-and-coming songwriter who’s taking her time to develop her voice, Ajayi leans into the bright, mellow sounds of Lauryn Hill, India Arie and Jamie Woon; but her own soul-baring performances make the music very much her own. One to watch. seetickets.com

Mall Grab | Sat 17 Mar | Hare & Hounds | SOLD OUT
Mall Grab made his name on a nostalgic, lo-fi house trend: crunchy, clipped beats and analogue synths that coalesced into an ethereal, emotional brand of vaporwave. But the Australian production guru hasn’t stayed still, grafting understated techno, squelchy acid and much more into his sound – and by now, Mall Grab’s hype is at a peak point.
