Mason is a founding member of the psychedelic overlords Pink Floyd, easily the most influential rock band to have ever existed. Several decades of their music has permeated popular consciousness in a way no other band has come close to matching and yes we’re including The Beatles. A lumbering seriousness that has seen The Floyd’s sonic canon veer seamlessly from trite to deathly serious as easily as Arnold Layne stealing knickers from washing lines. You’ll be pleased to hear that not all Scandinavian rock is intensely forged satanic thrash metal, Bergen’s finest, Major Parkinson, make a wonderfully eclectic noise that at times recalls Laibach and others The No Smoking Orchestra filtered through the Cardiacs’ askew world view, whilst at all times being held in check by the authoritatively solemn vocals of founder member Jon Ivar Kollbotn. A pop punk band with something to say? What will they think of next. Exeter’s Muncie Girls finally got around to releasing their debut album in 2016 and from the Sylvia Plath inspired title From Caplan to Belsize through the raft of rousingly intelligent songs, it is an album with a serious political heart.
