Bringing with them a spotlight on a whole new musical genre, Brit ‘punk-jazz’ quintet Worldservice Project arrive in Birmingham Thursday. Reviews chuck around clashing adjectives such as: stomping, riotous intelligent, irreverent and serious, but the only real way to get a grasp of this stylistically assembled ensemble is to see them in electric eclectic action. Theatrical and vibrant with free brass, glitch bass, clicks, shouts and claps, their ‘up on your feet’ sound is also as tight, slick and wild as an orchestra on amphetamines. Fun, futuristic, explosive sounds to make the room jump right into the next gen.
