Superorganism are an internet buzz-story personified: an eight-piece band that met on internet music forums, released a handful of tracks and got a few million Spotify plays before ever meeting in the same room; originally, they weren’t even on the same continent. True, the singles so far sound like they were sewn together from a bunch of eccentric parts, but it works, in the same way that the Avalanches know how to throw everything at the wall and get magic from it, or that Gorillaz take an everything-goes approach to bubblegum pop. From their glitchy, overdone music videos to their deadpan, quirky delivery, to the sound of a track getting sampled and re-sampled into itself like some collapsing kaleidoscopic vortex: Superorganism are undoubtedly a band of the internet age. They’ve also got a lot to live up to, given the lightning-fast record deal, the massive world tour and the gushing hype, but we reckon Superorganism don’t care too much – they’re here to embrace the moment, so you’d best embrace it too.
