You don’t get much more genre-defying than the polymath creative force that is Newtown’s own Soweto Kinch. International jazz star and local flyover revivalist, award winning alto-saxophonist, MC, jazz and hip hop master and producer, he’s undeniably one of the most exciting and versatile young musicians out there (oh and he holds a degree in Modern History from Oxford University). Despite the variety of talent that makes categorising his sound an almost pointless task, his musical achievements have gone far from unnoticed. Kinch has amassed an impressive list of accolades and awards on both sides of the Atlantic including a Mercury Music Prize nomination and 2 MOBO Awards and has been musically linked to KRS ONE, Dwele and Goldie and championed by the likes of Mos Def and Rodney P. In this show he leads his quartet through music from his new album NONAGRAM with a concept revolving around a nine-sided wheel or nonagon with each musical point along the wheel exploring a feature of different numbers or shapes. Musical genius? And some.
