The 12th incarnation of the celebrated Moseley Folk Festival is already taking shape, with the first acts announced for September’s idyllic weekend in the leafy hideaway of Moseley Park. The Folk Festival has made its name by pulling together some truly stunning line-ups over the last decade, and this year’s festival looks to do the same: the ephemeral, semi-classical songstress Laura Marling takes top billing, off the back of her stunningly intimate, career-best album, ‘Semper Femina’. There are a fair few surprises in the rest of the line-up, too: Swedish troubadour José González emerges after a seven-year absence from the spotlight, as lo-fi and charming as ever; country pop-rockers The Magic Numbers return to life with their lilting harmonies and fearsomely catchy hooks; Idlewild frontman Roddy Woomble is on his own once more, his iconic Hebridean baritone perfectly at home with the shimmering soft-rock of his solo material. Of course, there’s a brace of local talent to be found at the festival too – not least the unmissable multi-instrumental carnival of the Destroyers. Moseley Folk Festival has a considerable reputation to uphold, as a beautifully strange and otherworldly moment amid the madness of life, a small local park transformed briefly into an intimate encounter with giants of folk. Tickets go on sale at midday today (31st March), and with limited capacity we recommend you book early to avoid missing out.
