Winning a clutch of awards wherever it has been performed Gary McNair’s gently comic one man storytelling show has a beautifully simple premise. The narrator’s grand father places a winning bet on the outcome of the 1966 World Cup only to be diagnosed with cancer shortly after, he places another bet that he will survive to see the new millennium. Touching on themes we all fear, such as our own mortality and those familial feelings we share and cherish. Truth, memory, fate, all these concepts can cause existential terror, but they also form the foundations of our own personal narratives. A gentle joy.
