Gig: Kaleidoscope #3 at The Night Owl
In the blink of an unbelieving eye this incredible new monthly arts event has somehow already reached number three, how did that happen? If you missed the first two don’t make such a foolish mistake with the latest incarnation of Kaleidoscope. A feast of the sharpest local bands, cutting edge artwork and guest DJs at Digbeth’s bonhomie masters The Night Owl. Headlining are noisy trash rednecks The Hungry Ghosts, whose raucous sound will drag unwitting listeners into a deep swamp of bloody blues and leave them there helpless. Support comes from Handwaxx and As Mamas, with Table Scraps DJs unleashing wild eclecticism on your ears. Exhibitors include Molly Cleaver, Ben Gibbs and Adam Wynn.

This bittersweet take on the Frankenstein legend from one of cinema’s finest weirdo’s is a wildly inventive romp filled with gleeful darkness and loving homages to the classics that inspired it, from Nosferatu to Jurassic Park. Gig: Strange Collective at The Dark Horse
Liverpool’s weirdest gaggle of challenging musicians have little time for pretence and order, preferring to gatecrash their own music scene with a gloriously ribald devil may care freshness. The psych psycho warriors are as unpredictable live as their dress sense, harnessing Beefheartian madness into a messy cauldron of disparate influences that make them impossible to pin down musically. Don’t try, it will make your head spin, just get down to the Dark Horse Wednesday and prepare to be unhinged.
