Stirchley Community Market at Stirchley Baths
New month new edition of our favourite market. The usual array of top quality street food, stalls and good vibes packed to overflowing at the lovely Stirchley Baths. New this month is the spicy vegan Mex it Up; we recommend chowing down on ‘The Jackfruit One’, especially if you’ve never sampled the world’s knobliest fruit before, packs a punch so beware.

Journey Film Club at Birmingham LGBT
The lavishly staged Carol (dir: Todd Haynes, 2015, cert 15) is a stylish adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s 1952 novel ‘The Price of Salt’. Cate Blanchett is unforgettable as the titular hero Carol; forging a lesbian relationship with Rooney Mara’s Therese, in a beautifully realised fifties Manhattan and the fact that Haynes’ imperiously filmed drama was ignored by the Academy is a travesty.

Spoken Word at The Ort
The Ort possesses a wonderfully warm inclusivity not found at many venues and is always worth a visit whether there’s an event on or not. It must be one of the least intimidating places to showcase material which we think lends it a beautiful charm and fosters some great performances. Spoken word night always engenders some prolific eclecticism so expect to revel in poetry, stories, comedy and music.
