Here at the Wire, we love Roald Dahl as much as your next Human Bean; moral lessons veiled in entertaining prose, an instinctual fictional language, tales of adventure, childhood courage and defying all sorts of odds and vile individuals make this memorable author a true architect of fantasy. We also like his flatulence jokes and groovy gobblefunk (look it up). So it’s only right that the good people of Birmingham will come together for a whimsical day of remembrance, celebrating Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday on the 10th of September with activities including a confectioner–lover’s dream inspired by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, cake decorating and scoffing, Magic Candy pop-up shop see more details here, street food stalls in case you’re in the mood for something more substantial, custom-built beers (watch that whizzpopping), screenings of some of the classic Roald Dahl films, storytelling, face painting, and much more. Fancy dress is positively competitive, so come and get lost in a whizzpopper world full of Oompa loompas, magical creatures, chocolate and probably the odd giant crocodile.
