New Art West Midlands, the 2016 edition, showcases recent graduates from five West Midlands art schools, providing a platform for the region’s most promising new artists. This year sees the mac join Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, Wolverhampton Art Gallery and the Herbert Gallery & Museum, Coventry in hosting exhibitions from these exciting new artists for the first time and celebrates the region’s achievements in contemporary art. Exhibition highlights include Laura Haycock’s reclining self-portraits, Jack Marder’s video installation on gluttony in the modern age, and Matt Parker’s The Imitation Archive. Visitors can expect a mixture of painting, photography, sculpture, video and installation and the latest developments in contemporary art. 43 artists from five regional art schools are exhibiting their new work across these galleries. The mac hosts an artists’s Lab Share on the 24th inviting the public to gain more indepth insight into the artists’ work. As well as highlighting their work , this one-off lab share aims to offer further insight into the current trends and concerns of contemporary art, encourage experimentation and foster the development of new art projects. The artists will be discussing ‘experimentation and its outcomes’. An exhibition of a selection of the artist’s work will also be on display at the mac until April 20th
