We thought we’d remind you of one of our favourite galleries in Birmingham; the cool and contemporary Ikon, which has existed in some form since 1964, through a kiosk in the Bull Ring to its current home in Brindley Place. Always challenging in its exhibitions utilising a variety of media and all for free. Current exhibitions include founding artist Jesse Bruton whose paintings rather than depicting the landscape destinations of a car journey, constitute Bruton’s desire to embody the experience of the journey itself. Kan Xuan’s first UK exhibition comprises a wide selection of single screen video pieces based on personal experience and sometimes featuring the artist herself. If visitors are brave enough they can visit the Tower Room where the only currently installed version of Patrick Killoran’s Observation Deck is housed. A selection of Pamela Scott Wilkie’s silk screen prints are also on display. Did we mention the lift? So much fun!

Exhibitions run until 11 Sep at Ikon Gallery, Brindley PLace, Birmingham B1 2HS Free ikon-gallery.org/
