Live Music Saturday at The New Inn
We’re keeping a close eye on The New Inn, it seems the gloriously open beer garden is being put to imaginative use with live music today and an outdoor screening tomorrow the good citizens of Harborne are well catered for over the bank holiday. Taking to the patio stage, come rain or shine, are several local musicians including Ben Frost, Zee Khattak and Murdock Swales. The usual quality food will of course be available along with cocktails and the friendly New Inn atmosphere.

Hein! Quoi? Bazaar! Vintage Garage/ Pop Party at The Sunflower Lounge
We’re excited by this. A debut event at The Sunflower Lounge featuring twelve hours of wonderful psychedelic tinged grooviness. The Sunflower has always had an ‘out there’ countercultural vibe that makes it a reliably unique destination for those seeking something a bit ‘different’. This feels like an explosion of everything that makes The Sunflower tick. Fill your ears with garage rock and vintage pop sweetly engineered by a raft of DJ’s including regulars Ben Drummond; Priscilla B and Dandy Randy, browse vintage and vinyl stores, peruse the starkly beautiful art of Molly Cleaver and stuff your faces with Filthy Jim’s jerk bbq street food (veggie options). We’re already looking forward to Hein! Quoi? Bazaar! Number two.

Cuba to Jamaica at The Cuban Embassy
The big yellow thing in the sky may not be shining this weekend but we can assure you that Caribbean sunshine vibes will be blazing at The Cuban Embassy.  Moseley’s own Latin American funksters Rhythms Del Toro will be performing two sets alongside DJ Feva, those legendary Cuban sandwiches will be available but best of all, Rum Punch or Cuba Libres at £5 a go.

Shaun of the Dead outdoor screening at The New Inn
“You’ve got red on you”. Edgar Wright’s anarchic and loving tribute to the zombie genre comes to The New Inn garden for what we hope is the first of many outdoor cinema events there. That big lovely wide open space is perfect. There’s free popcorn and face painting though you may have to bring your own cornetto. A selection of Flatpack shorts will precede the screening.

Reggae Caribbean Cookout at The Hawker Yard
Ok, so it’s technically not free as there’s a one pound admission fee. We recommend digging down the back of the sofa for some loose change. It’ll be worth it to savour the delicious West Indian soul food served up by the sensational Mr Jerk. Throughout the afternoon the vibe levels will be set to hyper chilled as DJ’s spin the best reggae, ska and rock steady vinyl as you chow down, there’s even vegan options available.
