In a cinematic landscape bulging with the stench of bloated blockbusters, risible scripts and tiresome CGI it has never been tougher for budding filmmakers to get projects off the ground. Why even bother when the studios gaze is so firmly fixed on stocking the multiplex’s ten screen’s high with a grinding myriad of fluorescent superheroes all exploring the same plot relentlessly. In a move that turns the dollar signs of Hollywoodland on its (empty) head, local film producers Outward Film Network have let loose a striking initiative for anyone armed with a concept and script. Welcome to Fistful of Fivers, taking the micro budget ethos to incredible extremes with the challenge to make a film for five pounds or less. Submit your script and the OFN crew will support you through every process to get your movie completed with the chance to attend regional screening events and a festival submission for the very best work produced. Don’t think it can be done? Check out OFN’s own production The Waiting here, which was made for just one measly pound. More information can be found at the Fistful of Fivers website here, whilst you’re there explore some of the current Outward Film Network productions including the upcoming drama Junction 6, starring Laurence Saunders.
