The brainchild of music lovers Chris Bridge and Steve Bignell, Desert Island Discs, is a take on the popular radio show with a distinctly homespun Birmingham vibe. Guests are invited to come and play 8 of their favourite tracks from any genre over a 45 minute slot. The only pre-requisite is that the tracks mean something to them personally and the event is open to non DJ’s (as long as you can press a start button), as well as featuring tunes spun by some of Birmingham’s fantastic DJ talent. With a record fair going on upstairs, Pietanic on hand with food, and a licensed bar, expect an interesting and relaxing Saturday afternoon. It’s a laid back affair so families are welcome. The event will be bi-monthly and the demand has been such that the boys are sifting through enough DJ requests for the next 18 months. There’s room for plenty more though, so if this sounds like your bag, become a castaway and get involved. No experience necessary, no life raft required.
