LA due Louis Cole and Genevieve Artadi have been making funky, beat-heavy dance-jazz since back in 2010 – and like the similarly tongue-in-cheek Pomplamoose, they’ve built up an audience through attention-grabbing YouTube videos and a sense of humour, alongside their undeniable chops. A case in point: the hyper-jazz, Scott Pilgrim sugar-rush of ‘The Government Knows’ (“…when you masturbate”) complete with a thoroughly WTF, Tim-and-Eric overload of a video that, honestly, words fail to describe. On their 2016 LP ‘Life’, this track is followed by ‘All Time’, which could almost be a Little Dragon ballad if not for the EDM rushes in the chorus; so, suffice to say, Knower do whatever they damn well please, all the time, and they mostly do it with the intensity cranked up to eleven. With support slots for Thundercat and the Chili Peppers, and celebrated appearances at jazz festivals across the globe, it’d seem that the approach is paying off.
