In 1983, Jim and William Reid, two snotty nosed brothers from East Kilbride took an industrial sized chainsaw to a musical landscape that had become stale and shredded it in a blaze of snarling feedback and confrontational live shows. The audience were lucky if the band stayed on stage for twenty minutes in those early days. Their first live television performance in 1985 with a certain Bobby Gillespie in tow, blew our minds. Watch it here. Subversive and revolutionary their ability to drift from bubblegum pop to pummeling buzzsaw anthems has kept them essential listening throughout their careers. Amazingly, new album ‘Damage and Joy’ will be their first in 18 years. The album comes out in March and the Reid’s will be visiting Birmingham the same month to give us a taste. General tickets go on sale Dec 14 unless you are an O2 priority member. Safe to say it will sell out.
