The global performance art provocateurs Blue Man Group are descending on Birmingham this December for fifteen exclusive UK shows as part of a huge world tour. Who are these mysterious dead pan alien beings? It all began with a ‘Funeral for the 80’s’ in 1988 where the three founder members, Chris Wink, Matt Goldman and Phil Stanton, decided to get bald and blue and burn the worst of that decade in New York’s Central Park, bye bye Rambo doll, bye bye Berlin Wall. MTV got curious and an entertainment juggernaut was unleashed. The street disturbances of their early days have evolved over nearly three decades into an eye popping visual spectacular of finely tuned percussive mayhem, Grammy nominated music and a sense defying multimedia riot. Always appearing as three, as three is the smallest possible community, audience engagement is a key part of the Blue Man ethos. Expectations are universally traduced and cultural norms exploded, let the stony faced heroes of performance art assist you in ‘following your bliss’. You won’t regret it.
