Product Earth Expo | Fri 1 – Sun 3 Sep | Rainbow | from £32.24
The three-day urban festival Birmingham deserves. As much about education as music, Product Earth Expo’s chief concern is raising awareness of and promoting the UK hemp and cannabis industry. Outspoken UK rapper and activist Akala headlines alongside crossover hip hop stars Foreign Beggars, while dubstep group Modestep, proud weed smoker Black the Ripper and old-school junglist Kenny Ken join in on the act. And while you’re there, make sure to check out some of the seminars covering topics such as edibles, medicine and policy reform, headed up by some of the brightest thinkers and innovators in the industry today. www.eventbrite.co.uk

Jesse Rose & Joe Goddard | Fri 1 Sep | Hare & Hounds | from £5.50
The iconic Hare & Hounds is the venue for the Birmingham date of Jesse Rose’s farewell tour this Friday. Rose is, to say the least, a bit of a legend. He’s been around for a good twenty years, releasing his first EP in 2003 and continuing to churn out high quality material while DJing around the globe for years on end. Being a DJ is intense business and it certainly takes its toll, mentally and physically, so this is Rose’s chance to step away from the decks and enter a new stage in his life. Hot Chip and 2 Bears man Joe Goddard is Rose’s chosen partner-in crime for this one. Don’t miss this. www.skiddle.com

Bad Practice | Fri 1 Sep | The Lord Clifden | £8
Dark disco and deep grooves are the order of the day here at this event hosted by Bad Practice, feel-good purveyors of eminently danceable house and techno beats. Music is to be supplied by BP residents Paul Kaminski and Richard Buckley, with deep electronic brand Coloré’s DJs Steffan Taylor and Ohme also stepping in to lay down some slick songs to stoke the dance floor. Beginning at 5pm, this is an event stretching from the afternoon into the small hours of the morning, so make sure to get your dinner down you early to squeeze as much boogying in as possible.
