District Launch Party | Sat 9 Sep | Monastery | from £6.00
District (noun): an area of a country or city characterised by a particular feature or activity. That this term applies to Digbeth, the hub of Birmingham’s underground music scene, is self-evident, and District’s launch party sees a new brand take over the venue often frequented by like-minded ravers VOID. It’s a decidedly no-frills affair, so expect DJs Alex Parkin, Arron Saunders, Shya Groove and more to take no prisoners as they lay down hard-hitting house and techno sets filled with subterranean gems and envelope-pushing sounds. Our advice: brush up on ways of covertly Shazamming songs in the dance before this one. See our feature here. www.skiddle.com

Colours: Marcus Nasty | Sat 9 Sep | Rainbow | from £16.50
Rising from the ashes of a dying grime scene like a deck-spinning phoenix, in the late ‘00s Marcus Nasty became one of the first DJ evangelists to take the emerging style of UK funky to the masses. Taking your typical 4×4 house beat and overlaying this throbbing heartbeat pulse with African rhythmic flourishes and skittering broken beats, UK funky was the fabled New Sound, and Nasty recognised its potential from the get-go. Nasty’s natural sense of adventure shines through in his song selections for his weekly primetime Rinse FM show, which have recently seen him lean towards more UK bass productions. Keep on the cutting edge at this one. www.skiddle.com

Bentley Rhythm Ace Live | Sat 9 Sep | Hare & Hounds | from £13.20
It’s the early 1990s, acid house’s heyday has passed and a fresh new sound is making its way onto dance floors across the UK: big beat. A style made famous by the likes of the Prodigy and Fatboy Slim, big beat’s distorted drum loops and acid-inspired synth lines run through the music of Brummie electronic duo Bentley Rhythm Ace. Mixing this dynamic sound with more eccentric trip hop and drum & bass influences, Bentley Rhythm Ace’s music is unique, infectious and supremely danceable. Be aware that the duo aren’t exactly prolific when it comes to touring, so make the most of this opportunity to see them in action. www.skiddle.com
