Hospitality | Sat 17 Feb | O2 Institute | £22
Hospitality’s reputation precedes it – that’s why it rarely fails to sell out whenever it comes to Birmingham. Talented techstep triumvirate Noisia are the night’s headliners, neurofunk innovators from the Netherlands whose sonic craftsmanship is revered across the electronic music spectrum. Their barbed, nitrous-fuelled bombs always have an incendiary effect on the dance floor whenever they’re dropped – Noisia know how to work a crowd up into a frenzy. Noisia are joined by Metrik, London Elektricity, Etherwood, and more. Beware: this one’s not for the fainthearted. See our feature here. www.skiddle.com
Shadow Demon Coalition: Valentine’s Ball | Sat 17 Jan | Boxxed | from £22.50
Whether you’re blissfully in love or a proud singleton, there’s plenty to enjoy at this drum and bass rave curated by Shadow Demon Coalition. As a collective, SDC is fiercely independent, composed chiefly of artists in the underground scene who, on the turn of the millennium, banded together to form their own powerhouse of a brand. Even if you think Valentine’s Day is a load of capitalistic codswallop, the packed-to-the-rafters line up promised by this event – featuring Basslayerz, Logan D and Bassman, amongst others – makes being struck by Cupid’s arrow a risk worth taking for a taste of these propulsive D&B rollers. www.theticketsuperstore.com
Get Together | Fri 16 Feb | Amusement 13 | Free
On its third birthday, grime, garage and bass night Get Together returns to where it all started: Amusement 13. The G2G manifesto firmly rejects the traditionally slow-burning DJ set in favour of instantly gratifying club bangers – anything to get the crowd on a next hype. DJ Fallow is the evening’s esteemed guest, purveyor of dutty bashment riddims and raw, unfiltered grime, while a hand-picked selection of resident DJs will also be at hand to provide a smattering of hip hop, drum and bass and everything in between. Head over to the Facebook event here and tag yourself and your mates for free entry until midnight. *Guestlist now full, but ltd. paid tickets available on the door.
