Off the Cuff is a spanking new party brand from the curators of Tektu and Resonate, whose mission it is to bring the world’s best selectors to intimate spaces in and around Birmingham. Their inaugural event is set to take place at the Courtyard, formerly the Rainbow Pub, and their first guest is none other than Jasper James. At under 30 years old, James is still pretty young in DJing terms, but he’s notched up a fair few years of experience in the industry since being taught to spin the decks by his dad when he was just 13. He now holds the accolade of being the youngest DJ ever to perform at Glasgow’s legendary Sub Club, and he was named DJ Mag’s Best Breakthrough DJ back in 2015. No doubt his youth is an asset when performing his infamous marathon sets, which can last for in excess of six hours – but make no mistake: James is known for his quality as much as sheer quantity. If you’ve been under the cosh of exam season all May, this is as good a blow-out option as any.
