Musical icons don’t come any cooler than the sludge heavy guitar maestro Brian Tristan, better known of course as Kid Congo Powers. In a career spanning nearly four decades he was an original member of swamp blues punkers The Gun Club, before leaving to join possibly the cultest cult band of them all, The Cramps. Powers also put in a near ten year shift with Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, we told you he was cool. This time in Birmingham he’s bringing The Pink Monkey Birds, a whisky soaked rabble of southern pounding fuzz messiahs, that trademark Congo Powers trashy blues whupass mayhem has lost none of its moonshine drawl. Local hillbilly noise merchants Black Mekon will be slipping in with their usual furtive underground musical malice, we really can’t think of a more suitable support band. DJ Priscila B will keep tunes down and dirty till the early hours.
