The delightful three piece slackers from Australia, The Goon Sax, saunter back to the Hare & Hounds after an incredible show last June with their fragrant brand of sweetly profound indie pop. If you can make out the faint whiff of those earlier indie legends from down under, the Go-Betweens, that may be because frontman Louis Forster is the son of Go-Betweens founder Robert. That’s not to suggest The Goon Sax are in anyway derivative, the endearingly astute band manage to meld brisk jangly melodies with a sharp as an axe lyrical vision. A bit like burying a live hand grenade in a pink frosted cup cake. Debut album Up To Anything is a wonderful dip into the trenchant realism of the band’s eccentric universe and was released to universal acclaim, 12 tracks of DIY serenity that possess a fiercely naturalistic charm. Finally someone has tackled the unspeakable terror of going to the hairdressers, Home Haircuts is a classic of 21st Century existential pain. New album We’re Not Talking is due September 14th.
