Since its inception in 2010 BE FESTIVAL has continued to traduce expectations of theatre with a wildly eclectic programme of imaginatively thrilling ideas that have wowed audiences and critics, last years Aerobics! A Ballet in 3 Acts and British Enough? Were fine examples of BE’s considered trashing of the accepted theatre spectacle by challenging cultural norms, tropes and ignorance. It’s a sweet gust of fresh air through what can at times be perceived as a tired medium. As ever, events take place around the hub of The Repertory Theatre over several days with a staggeringly diverse programme curated for 2018. Check out the full schedule here, but unmissable for us are the return of Revolt AthenΣ and its mischievous reflection on the Greek financial collapse mixing mythology and riots, the terrifying but liberating blurring of audience and cast in This Work About The Orange and the aggressive performance art, acrobatics and circus of Take Care of Yourself. In a festival overflowing with a riot of imaginative vigour and intellectual sharpness our greatest recommendation is that you purchase a pass (including dinner) and watch the lot, you won’t regret it.
