District (noun): an area of a country or city characterised by a particular feature or activity. That this term applies to Digbeth, the hub of Birmingham’s underground music scene, is self-evident, and District’s launch party sees a new brand take over the venue often frequented by like-minded ravers VOID. One of the newest and most exciting venues to spring up out of the industrial heart of the second city, the Monastery represents the true essence of raving: gritty and raw, with a focus on music above all else. It’s a decidedly no-frills affair, so expect DJs Alex Parkin, Arron Saunders, Shya Groove and more to take no prisoners as they lay down hard-hitting house and techno sets filled with subterranean gems and envelope-pushing sounds. Our advice: brush up on ways of covertly Shazamming songs in the dance before this one.
