In terms of big name, old school, top whack DJ presence, you don’t get much more bang for your buck than Andrew Weatherall. Despite his God-like original Boys Own/Balearic-gangsta back story and the fact that he has produced pretty much every ‘best’ dance remix known to man, he has pointedly shunned ‘superstar DJ’ status to pursue a more authentic, hands-on career and continues to wallow in the deep end of dirty basslines and dripping dancefloors, rather than rest on his laurels or demand shiny plinths and bigger bills. The original musical rebel, Weatherall is known as much for his Midas-like capacity to turn any track into Acid House gold as he is for dropping anything from dub, punk and techno to ambient and disco on a dancefloor. The Hare & Hounds is exactly the sort of venue that suits Weatherall’s dirty, hypnotic beats and untamed, unabashed quirky authenticity – no wonder he keeps coming back.
