Birmingham’s got it in for good ol’ guy Fawkes this year. To make sure your weekend goes off with a proper bang and a boom, here’s our pick of the best Birmingham bonfire night action that the region has to offer including a few of the more specialist events in and around the city. Don’t forget to tuck your jeans in your wellies kids…

1. Edgbaston Fireworks Spectacular at Edgbaston Stadium.
The city’s magnificent cricket ground, Capital FM and MCL have partnered up to bring Birmingham a sparkling Saturday night for anyone who wants a city central meet-up or is planning an explosive amuse bouche before their night out on the town. Possibly the biggest and probably the closest to Birmingham city centre, attractions include classic fairground rides, hot and cold food & drink, Capital FM hits and all the usual bommie night shebang.
Sat 5 Nov, 4pm – 10pm (last entry at 6.45pm, fireworks at 7pm). Tickets cost £8/£6/£4 in advance and increase on the night. Family tickets and VIP tickets (with food, seating and bar access) also available. www.eticketing.co.uk/edgbaston

2. Himley Hall The Big 40 Fireworks & Music Spectacular
If Heart FM is more your speed, then Himley Hall fireworks has everything to offer, don’t be fooled though, billed as the largest local authority display in the country, expect this to Go Off with a bang (or 3). Co-hosted by Heart FM and celebrating its 40th anniversary, also expect this infamous night to command a real regional draw. Himley Hall claims to have Dudley’s biggest funfair and the fireworks are due to be choreographed to ramped up party music at 8.30pm. Free buses will run from Dudley, Coseley, Sedgley, Quarry Bank & Brierley Hill, Halesowen & Stourbridge from 5.30pm onwards.

3. Solihull Round Table Fireworks Display
If you fancy a family event but like a bit more bang and far less bustle for your buck then you’re best bet is probably the Solihull Fireworks Display taking place at Tudor Grange Park with admission ‘pay-what-you-like’, all the profits then go to local charities via The Solihull Round Table. The doors are early on this one to allow for plenty of pre-bedtime excitement and expect music, stalls and entertainment aimed at the younger end of the market.

4. Bonfire Night at The Bull’s Head Earlswood
A Friday night bonfire & fireworks event which mostly takes place indoors, for those who prefer to be able to retreat to the cosy confines of a pub to wrapping up in the cold all night. The Bull’s Head Bonfire night will feature a professional display by Fantazia Pyrotechnics (that bit’s outside), a whole BBQ hog roast, craft stalls, snack stalls, and a full stocked bar with hot drinks also. Entry is free, with some tables in the restaurant available for early booking for a a special set menu.

5.The Spectacular Kings Heath Fireworks Extravaganza
Want to make a whole weekend of it? Or just fancy a brilliant community fireworks display with a family-oriented feel (and real ale)? Then head to Kings Heath Cricket & Sports Club for this event which has been successfully pulling out all the pyrotechnic stops for over a decade now and is always popular with families (there’s that a real ale tent).

A few more niche events around the city include arty party heads FREE Digbeth First Friday’s Pop-up Bonfire event with live acts, music and food from the awesome Real Junkfood Project, see here for details. Early off the blocks on Thursday is some late night Guy Fawkes baiting at The Vale’s Fab N Fireworks university bash with fireworks and a funfair until 3am on Thu 3 Nov, see details here. And a more sophisticated grown-up style celebration is on offer at Hampton Manor where an Aussie Wine Road Trip and market stall style wine tasting will precede the fireworks & music at 10.30pm on Fri 4 Nov.
